Media Lover

People have a serious fondness for their iPhones. That's so obvious... you see them everywhere, glancing all the time. My media addiction is different. I fit the older demographic that goes outside the phone for my sources. I flip channels between CNBC, the stock guys, and MSNBC, the cable news channel with a liberal bias. Watch the market. Has the economy disintegrated yet? Not yet. Flip the channel over to CNN. So glad this horrible stuff is not happening to me.

My guilty pleasure is Jim Kunstler's "Clusterfuck Nation" screed. He puts out a blog on Monday morning and offers his brilliant, cutting observations on the state of world. Kunstler is especially good at revealing the financial shenanigans of Wall Street, the hocus-pocus that produces nothing much beyond more money for the bankers.

These are my media obsessions:

1) CNBC, stock market TV shows
2) MSNBC, liberal commentary
3) Jim Kunstler, Clusterfuck Nation blog
4) KUT, liberal radio commentary from the University of Texas at Austin
5) The Horn, sports talk on the radio
6) Rush Limbaugh, right wing bluster
7) NY Times, the paper of record
8) Facebook-- and a brief search of electronic world (Drudge Report, Salon, YouTube etc.)

I get in my car and listen to the radio-- go for KUT, the Public Broadcasting programs coming out to the University of Texas. Then I'll switch to sports talk radio, but the local guys on "The Horn." And then I'll listen to Rush Limbaugh, just to enjoy the intensity of the vitriol. He knows how to push all the right buttons. Maybe Rush is a mentor to Donald Trump-- teaching him the blunt style, insulting but evasive-- a rush of words and emotion designed to overwhelm the senses.

I drive to Starbucks, get a coffee and read the NY Times. That habit started early as my father read the NY Times every day of his life. Cannot stand the thought of all that paper getting into my house.

And that is my daily shower of information.
